things i'm in love with

a week spent working hard to keep up, and make up for time spent in bed all last weekend. and, all the while, trying to desperately find a doctor in vancouver (shout out: if anyone has a great dr in vancouver accepting new patients, i NEED TO KNOW). this is the first time i've spent on the computer all week - and yet, i've been thinking about, and being sent links for some of the best stories, and inspirations all week. i've also been feeling like i need to kick things up a notch with colour and patterns in my day to day (prints on my walls and clothes alike), so i've been totally obsessed.

things i'm in love with this week
a little kaleidoscope type theme i'm on this week - colours, 70's style. can't get enough of it.
these awesome bouquets - a bit more personalized than the average flowers. i'm a big fan of bringing flowers wherever i go, and these top it all... how to personalize plants/flowers as gifts.

these amazing galaxy nails from cup of joe. i had a colleague ask recently, 'are your nails ALWAYS done?'.... and i had to nod. i don't know when i became that girl, but i love that polish totally cleans me up. i typically wear all black and grey and having lavendar nails (the current colour) helps me choose my accessories, as well as giving me the ability to throw my hair in a ponytail and still look put together. this galaxy look will be my next trip to the nail table.
elizabeth amento's art is totally inspiring me lately... i'm obsessed with each of her collage pieces. and everything she does seems to be perfect.

the MOST beautiful, nicole richie. i'm obsessed. totally obsessed. and my nails are the same colour as her hair currently. obvs soul twins. her spread in paper magazine is utterly and completely jaw-dropping.

(if anyone knows the source of this photo, please let me know! found here)

i've had the pleasure of working with deanna palkowski, and i'm always so amped to see people appreciating the cool ass chick she is. love this piece from garmentory on her.

that's all this week - hope everyone has an amazing weekend. enjoy the sun!

on fashion and inspiration

the only thing more amazing than creating a life filled with space to be creative, is having that life also be filled with creative people - people who inspire, and push me daily to be a stronger, smarter and more creative version of myself.
one of those people is sara armstrong. an amazing designer who pushes boundaries and who believes in the fluidity of fashion and style and lines and all of the things that make fashion worth sticking around for.
she just released her video for fw '14, and - of course - it's perfection.
thank you sara - for reminding the world of what fashion needs to be.

things i'm in love with

ok. acknowledgment: i am behind on my blogging. it's been a bit nutty with all weekend courses, work events i've been running, meetings with new stores for jewelry, AND my parents are here visiting... so i'm spending all my spare time with them. so blog posts will follow.
in the meantime. some things i'm in love with this week.

this article on signs being ladylike is not your forte - i should add a disclaimer to this, being that everyone has their own definition of 'class' and things we see as 'ladylike' are totally a social construct. with that being said, i can relate to many of these things... all the while, i can still put on the niceness every once in a while.

this video of the rick owens fashion show. i've been delayed in posting.... but it can't go without a nod (or a scowl, in keeping with the show), as it's the way fashion should be moving.

sometimes you just need a good throwback of en vogue.

that's it for today - because more importantly, i'm going to go for a nice hike with my parents, and then drink some wine. so there.
have a great weekend everyone!

body chains and beats

super excited to see a piece i made in the new collection video for sara armstrong
sara is a designer originally from saskatchewan, transplanted to vancouver - with a background in fine arts, sculpture, fashion and intermedia, sara brings all together in everything she does. i've been ever so lucky to work with her in a few ways - and this body chain is the perfect compliment to the amazing clothes she designs.
you can see more of sara here, including her most AMAZING S/S 14 lookbook. i'm so in love.

thanks for having me in and amongst the awesome, sara!

friends, zoos, and the oddities

i am so enamoured with this video... a visit to the zoo, and a conversation between dear friends iris apfel and duro olowu. they met in 2005, and have been friends ever since - she and her husband carl are like my second parents,” says Olowu. “of course she loves fashion and I’m in the fashion business, but it’s not based on that. It’s just that I respect them, I like them and anyway I’ve always been a sucker for a 90-year-old broad.”
now THIS... this is real friendship.

iris: "the odd couple"; duro: "not so odd actually - it's the rest of the world that's odd, iris"
iris: "people like you to be a trained monkey"; duro: "what do you really think people think of you?"; iris: "i'll tell you the truth, i don't really think about it.... it's their problem, not mine, so i'm not going to stress about it."
iris: "love is wonderful - i think it's mutuality liking the same things, having respect for eachother. sex has something to do with it, but real love is not sex. i don't think today... young people don't seem to understand anything about relationships - they're so attached to buttons and pressing buttons that they have no time for anything human. it's much easier to jump into somebody's pants than to get into somebody's head."
iris: "animals i think are much better than people; why; well, i think they're more honest. if they like you, if they don't like you."
iris: "most people i find so boring i don't want to talk to them - sometimes i like to be left alone; what do you do when you're left alone; i like to sit and think. i really enjoy thinking."
